The Green Township Fire Department protects not only Green Township but a portion of Frelinghuysen Township. To become a firefighter, you must be at least 18 years old and in good health. The Green Township Fire Department has a Junior Program for persons between the ages of 16 - 18 years old. Parental consent is required to join the Junior Program. If you or anyone you know might be interested in being a firefighter, please invite them to talk with our firefighters to hear the opportunities that await them.

How much does it cost to volunteer?
There is no charge to join the Fire Department. All of the equipment needed to be active on the scene of a call (Personal protective equipment and training), is purchased by the department.
How much time does it take to volunteer with GTFD?
To be a firefighter in the State of New Jersey, you must complete a Firefighter 1 course within a year of joining. There is a monthly department drill as well as a a monthly department meeting. The drills and meetings are not mandatory, but they are to your benefit to attend as many of these events as possible.
